sadness: is seeing an ice fishing shack stranded in the middle of a lake. I saw one of those yesterday...
It was surviving on a little patch of ice surrounded by cold clear running water. The owner had obviously not believed the rumours that we were going to get such warm weather and did not get to retrieve it in time for the thaw. It was just barely holding onto
the ice, just barely staying upright. You could tell it was doomed. You could tell by the way it looked, that if it was a person it would know that it was doomed.
The wood seemed to sag a little as if it knew what was coming. It was just a matter of time before the ice melted and it fell to the bottom of the lake. There was no chance of rescue. No truck could reach it. Towing it back to shore would be nearly impossible. It was to cumbersome and lacked essential aerodynamic qualities to be dragged by a swimmer or even a team of dedicated swimmers. Even if it could be gotten securely tied up, the water would probably destroy the timber and it's other components. No the best it could hope for was either some foolhardy adventurere dismantling parts of it for salvage or falling to the bottom of the lake to decay. At this point it is just a matter of time.
hapiness: is a chocolate covered strawberry on a warm day when the sun has finally returned.
sadness: is a boarded up summer house. No matter how cheerily and painted the boards are across the windows, they are still there for just one purpose - to try and keep the winter out.
