i wandered towards Concord today. It's about an hour away, and I started my journey sometime after 1pm. My main objective was to go to the Elegant Ewe, a wool shop I heard about that sells drop spindels and spinning wheels along with other various textile related implements.

The road out to Concord is mostly one lane each way and goes through a few small towns and near two state parks. The evergreens tower over the roads like giants, with their branches peering down from the heavens. The road itself wanders, goes over a few hills and the route has 2 rotaries on it along with a few signs for frost heaves. For those who aren't from the northeast, frost heaves are those large heaves/bumps in the road that happen due to the changes in temperature in the winter. Quite a few streets in the back areas of NH post warnings about them, and a row or two of severe ones can send you bouncing in your car quite violently. I've never seen warnings about them posted in any other state than NH...although I know from experience they exist elsewhere.

I arrived in Concord, after a few mayhaps with the directions in good shape. I found the shop, and proceeded to buy a drop spindle. This is a simple device used for taking wool (etc.) and making it into yarn. The store was a lot smaller than I had hoped...(much smaller than WEBs in Northampton but few places match there in terms of scope). However I did find out when the Highland Games in NH are this year and they had a nice mix of stuff.

It was a beautiful day so I parked in downtown and walked around looking in various shops. I tried unsuccesfully several times to get food...but I had just missed the lunch rush and many of the shops were closed or closing...and I had little $ on me. I wound up getting an OJ and some chips at a deli that was about to close for the day.

I found a good music store and a place selling chocolate covered strawberries (which I had been craving all weekend)....and saw a few more sights....it was gorgeous out today. I got into my car and headed back home just in time for the fog that is now covering the land to roll in and make everything damp and gray.
