This came across the mailing list for rapier in Meridies (Southeastern US: Alabama, Georgia, most of Tennessee, small portions of Kentucky and Virginia, and the panhandle of Florida.)
"Greetings Rapier fighters of Meridies, and the others on this list. It is my sad duty to pass on to you all that their Royal Highnesses do not wish to have a Rapier Champion. Further They request that rapier not occur near them.
I know this is disapointing for a great many of us. I ask that you demonstrate the courtesy and chivalry which are the ideals we strive for."
Ummm..wow. Just wow.
I haven't been fencing much in the last few years (something I intend to correct), and I don't live in Meridies, but if someone took away one of the things I loved most in the SCA, I'd be much less than pleased. I suspect I'd stop playing in the SCA.
It's one thing not to have a champion, but not to even have fencing at an event with a royal progress? Way to make people want to keep coming to events.
