So for reasons, mostly revolving around Radiant Dragon, I went into a "Ain't Mongols Neat" phase last friday, which mostly involved me geeking about Dels, and all the nifty little hats. My inner costuming geek was happy.
I read up a bit on Mongolian history, and got into happy linguistics bits. All well and good. yay Mongols!
I also read some not great bits about conquests, but really I was looking at costuming more than conquest information, and most cultures have
some really not great conquest background somewhere, if they survived.
went off to Radiant in the course of the weekend (yay! awesome event, more on this later).
So on Sunday night I was thinking cool things about Mongols. I was very much in an "ain't history neat" mood.
Then I caught a bit of Disney's Mulan on Sunday night...enough to see the dark terrifying Mongols who crush small children's toys. sigh. Disney !=historical accuracy and I know that...but..not sure how to say what I wanted to here, but it got me into a whole stereotypes vs. representation of other cultures thought line.
