Good weekend. Friday night was the exalted game over at Janie’s. Then off to [livejournal.com profile] dougansf’s where we got up somewhat early to drive out near Poughkeepsie, NY for [livejournal.com profile] dicechucker and [livejournal.com profile] princessakasha’s early evening wedding. Fairly long drive out, but beautiful wedding under a tent in a field at her grandmother’s farm. Joyce really looked radiant, and her dress was beautiful. The wedding party had a midsummer’s night theme, with the bridesmaid’s wearing butterfly wings and the ushers wearing multi-colored horns, which were also the wedding favors.

It was also really nice to see [livejournal.com profile] dicechucker, [livejournal.com profile] chickipu_no_oni, [livejournal.com profile] illrepute, [livejournal.com profile] giftchild, and many others. Good food, good people, and I think I finally got the story of the first Viking raid memorized from giftchild.

We had originally planned to stay that night, but wound up driving back to dougansf’s rather late and got in about 3:30 in the morning. I was pretty wiped out by the time we left that day, so while I probably have liked to stay and heard more stories and songs (as most of the people there were SCAdian), I wouldn’t have stayed awake, so it’s just as well we left. :) I fell asleep on the ride home and didn’t even notice a massive blinding storm that dougansf drove through (props to him for driving back, btw).

Sunday was made up of sleeping in, watching Bubba Ho-Tep (UGH!), food at IHOP, and going to see The Village. I really like the Village, although I know some people weren’t as fond of it. I wasn’t expecting any amazing unseen huge plot twist. I was just really happy with the consistency of the world that was created, the costuming, and the way shots were lit and filmed. If you’re going to do a world like that it’s great when it’s consistent.

Couple of random thoughts on my mind-

In college, my brother had two friends who were brother and sister from Hong Kong. They’re family was very wealthy and we went to visit their (the brother and sister’s) penthouse apartment one time while we were in NYC with other friends of my brother’s several years back. Several months after this, my brother told me that their family had ordered them to cut off all contact with their non-asian friends or they’d be disinherited and cut off their entire family. They did. My brother hasn’t heard a peep from them since. I wonder how much it takes to have to make a decision like that. I wonder what led the parents to make such an extreme decision. I know they were scared of their children being Americanized. Not really much more to say about this, but it’s just been flitting in and out of my mind for some reason lately.
