Nov. 26th, 2003 09:05 amFencing rocked last night. There were about 10 of us there, including a few people I hadn't met before. I came into the practice knowing that either I was going to have a really good night, or a really bad night just based upon how much bottled up energy my body had. It was going to either make me have lots of stamina and control or I was going to be spastic. I had control and stamina. I wasn't completely in the full fencing zone, where the world slows down and time dilates as you fence, but I was in pretty good form and in the right mindset, so I was mostly in the "on" mode. :)
I played with Lee for awhile and got through most of her defences. She has an odd fencing style, but I've played with her enough that there's always a good chance (50/50) that I can take her when I'm "on". We did single and buckler just because it's been awhile since I've played and those are the two forms I'm authorized in. I got to go a bit with Christian, who told me my point control was excellent (I snipe hands) and that I hadn't lost anything since we last fought each other. Much goodness there, since last time I had picked up a blade I had done some odd wannabe larp things with it. Christian tends to bring out the best in me when I fence him. My motions are still a bit big however.
I met a few newbies, including a guy who used to play a lot about 10 years ago whose come back. He's coming up to speed rapidly and he's at max's or christian's level of skill. We did a brief bout of melees and a bear pit and called it a night.
Overall, it was a definite good experience and one of those nights that reminds me how much I love fencing. My frame of mind about a bout makes all the difference in the world. I need to tighten in my movements a bit and get back to more drilling. ah well.
