I've begun to fall into a set pattern of fencing. I try new things @ the Malagentia practice on Tuesday. Drill basics on Thursday and Sunday between Stonemarche and Carolingia. I need to start doing drills @ home as well on the off-days but this constant state of movement and work hasn't left me much time for it.
Last night I played cloak with Vincent for quite a few bouts. I can easily see why most people dislike this form. It's not always intuitive and its not as easy to wrap your head around as a buckler or another sword. Plus if you were in a real battle wouldn't it be neat to have two blades and not a blade and a cloak?
The constant need to make your cloak go swish swish as a distraction or to bind blades can really wear out your arms. There is also of course stylishly draping it across half of your shoulder w/ your hand behind it and whipping it out as necessary. This has merit but it leaves me feeling exposed in part because the cloak arm doesn't move as fast due to drag. i do see the advantages of it though...and I want to be good at cloak - in part because most people seem to hate it.
I should probably finish my obligatory weekend wrap-up. Overall it was a great weekend. Much fun and really relaxing. I only got a couple of bruises from the fencing :) It would have been perfect if C hadn't gotten upset over something. I understand why she did though and we wound up talking about it later and it *should* be more or less alright. Worrying about her did distract me though, and probably made me not communicate well all of saturday night. Any confusion can be cleared up though; since i think everyone was on the same page and didn't realize it. How's that for cryptic for you? yep probably good enough ;)
My epee did some odd things in the morning that will make me get yet another new blade. The regional marshal et al says it's fine but I might not take it into tourneys anyways. I'm cautious, I am.
In any event, it was a great event...the camping was miserable on friday night but great on saturday night....the daytime was just about perfect and the light reflecting off of the lake was beautiful. I was very relaxed. It was good.
