where church and state merge
Feb. 22nd, 2003 06:42 pmso it should be fairly obvious by now that I write most of my entires as friends only. I guess I could write more out here, but it never seems applicable.
I could write about my views on politics-I'm against this war with Iraq, but I find the reasons why someone would be against it fairly obvious and don't need to expound on them. I also understand some of the reasons for it, but I don't agree with all of them. I don't see the need to start the debate actually. It does bother me a great deal though that I *used* to be a moderate, and that my views really haven't changed but I seem to have become more of a liberal over time compared to the rest of the country.
It bothers me that George W. Bush seems to think that all of the country is just like Texas or that he uses things like "I'm a Christian" to justify his actions. What does that even mean? Its not like the christian religions agree on everything. And yes I do mean religionS. They aren't all the same and don't all agree. The Bible isn't even consistent in translation or meaning. Have you ever read 3 or 4 different versions? heck you change a word or two and entire nuances are changed, then there are the ones with some passages that aren't in others...I can only figure that the "I'm a Christian" stance means I'm a right-winged bible-belt believing christian, which is fine, but it doesn't completely define his ethics in my mind. It leaves more questions than answers....it would be like saying "I'm a college student" and expecting everyone to follow 100% what I meant in all circumstances.
and in any event, I thought we were supposed to have seperation of church and state.
