redfishieThis morning I drove out to Bear Brook State Park, in the wilds of southern NH. I went for a hike in and around the snowmobile trails, which currently are closed to the snowmobiles due to the lack of snow. Truth is there's barely any snow on the ground, just a lot of ice patches and rocks where the trails are...which can be alternately fun and terrifying to run on. ;)
I went out and went stompy stomp, trompy tromp about. The forest itself was impressive, a nice dense deal which pleased me.
Hiking always makes me feel more alive, more connected to the world and the earth. There's something in particular about walking in dense wood coverage that does it this to me. It doesn't happen on other sorts of hikes (salt marshes aren't as much fun for example). I have a marked preference for the shadows of tall trees and thick forests than to any other sort of terrain.
