So I live in a new england seacoast town, which has some nice quaint features and was founded in the 1600s. My apartment is all of maybe 2 miles from the water. We're a pretty well visited area and a frequent stop for people going up to Maine.

There are certain hazards I've come to expect while traveling home; people with badly secured kayaks, idiot bikers who like to ride at night, the occasional badly lost tourist. What I do not expect at midnight less than 2 miles from my house is 6 deer calmly crossing the road in a pack. There were 5 on one side of the road and one on the other side, all in a clump illuminated by my headlights. Thankfully they had already mostly crossed the road and were moving slowly or I would have hit them. As it was it took me a moment to register what they were.

I don't know but there's something about a maritime town with a good deal of brick and deer that just didn't mix in my mind until now.
