I went to IKEA and got furniture and saw my parents down in NJ. It was something like a 6 hour trip both ways. I got lost on the way there, missed my exit and wound upon the cross bronx express way. this is a bad place to get lost. very bad. too much traffic. I kept looking at the skyline and not believing I was in NY b/c the twin towers were missing and then remembering why. They always used to orient me when i was there. I used to drive to Jersey City everyday in the summer (for two years) to work at a museum...and they were my landmarks of how soon I was there. The skyline looks so barren without them and the Empire State Building seems lonely.

My parents were great and my Dad bought me an early birthday present (my birthday isn't until May). It made me feel a little spoiled but also grateful. I should probably talk to them more.

The trip back was uneventful...I saw way too many malls in the distance, after awhile malls as landmarks don't work. Everything looks the same. Is that what our culture is coming to? mass produced plastic?
