The idea is to take a look at your LJ a year back for every year you've had it and look at the entry closest to today. If you haven't had an account a year, look 6 months back, or a month back as appropriate. Either quote the entry or put a link to it or both....

"i had just about as perfect a day as you can reasonably expect yesterday...

Kay showed up about 8-8:30 and we hopped in my car...grabbed bkfst at dunkin donuts, and headed out onto the road. We took Rt.2 out to Greenfield, passing of course through Gardner, New England's furniture capital on the way. Eventually we made it to Greenfield.

In Greenfield we went to the community college for Bergental's Birthday which also happened to be the north central fencing championship.

They set up the fencing tournament so it was melees with groups of 3s and then 2s and then singles. I made it to the 2s because I had great people on my team, Balthazar (from Concordia) and Malcolm (who came up from the NYC area). Much happy goodness. I got to...play with people I used to see every week when I lived in Amherst. I have really missed them."

"Portsmouth is a lot like a grown-up Northampton, where the strip goes crazy and winds in and around itself. I still haven't adjusted to living by the sea...the water is salty, there's a breeze. ships go in and out, and tug boats roam.... it's all very odd to me, a little landlocked jersey girl who played in lakes and mountain pools as a child. that much water should not be nor should it be salty.

I guess I would feel different if I grew up going to the jersey shore...but roads run mostly north south in NJ, not east west. the lake on summer days was easier than battling to the shoreline. We never went to LBI or to Cape May. We stayed nearby, we could run away in the rain; back to the comfort of home and clean crisp towels. warm blankets, and books to read as the rain fell on the roof.

anyways downtown today we both bought kick-ass shoes. I feel cute in my new shoes. And my friend admits that his shoes were just about what he'd been dreaming of."

"came home today after the war of the roses. as I was driving down the pike, a group of geese walked out into the road right in front of my car.

I was going somewhere in the neighborhood of 60mph. I swerved to get around them and hit the brakes too...probably not the best idea...but I wasn't sure how much impact a goose would have on a windshield.

Stopped the car alright and was fine but a bit shaken up. drove to the lee exit and chilled for a bit.
turns out there was a bad accident not far up the road from this sometime in the next 10 or 20 minutes, and traffic backed up badly. I probably would have been involved in it if not for the geese. what at first was an annoyance turned out to be a blessing."
