Lost really gets to me as a show. I don’t deal well with suspense in fiction…I want to know too badly sometimes. I almost have problems watching the darn show cause they build up the tension so well. And it’s not a true mystery, it’s something other in this show to me..the longer they draw situations out the twitchier I get.
It’s interesting that this show is popular now. You have to wonder about the societal factors driving a show…why for example Invasion of the Body Snatchers resonated so well during the Commie scare, etc. I mean yeah it’s damn good writing but is there more to it?
What does the building of suspense and tension and lack of control in strange circumstances say about our world today? Would this show have been as popular 5 or 10 years ago? Characterization I think it would have. It has pretty solid build up on the characters and its obviously well thought out. Compare this to say Twin Peaks for eccentric-ness (no cherry pie in Lost, more is the pity)…
Darn good show in any event. I love the fact they did the entire flashback episode immediately before.
