Random news on the allergy front. Basically kids who grow up in sterile-ly clean homes and eat a lot of processed foods are more prone to develop allergies and asthma. Also having a dog as a young tot, decreases allergy risks but
having a cat doesn't.

"..exposure to dirt early in life may help kick start the immune system into fighting allergies."

what's not comforting about all of this is that for food alleriges in ERs, "only 16 percent of all patients coming in with severe allergic reactions were treated with epinephrine, the gold standard for treating allergic reactions to food."

There's a rise worldwide in developed industrial countries of both asthma and allergies... some of it may be due to this but I'm not ruling out the increased use of other chemicals as well.
