da' weather
Jan. 8th, 2004 02:47 pmthe weather is going to be pretty darn cold tonight with the wind chill factor (something on the order of -10 degrees) which is dangerous for exposed skin; frostbite risk gets a good deal higher. A weather advisory has been issues for the Boston area due to the cold.
Last year when we had a run of days like this, the local ski areas closed due to the safety risk (trail attendents, guest, and instructors were getting hurt because they didn't notice the symptoms). In similiar weather, a friend of mine had one of her daughters get frostbite where her jacket and gloves met (gap in clothing that was not obvious; happily the child was alright due to prompt medical attention).
since it's just a good thing to know, i'm going to post this. Obviously if you think you might have frostbite or similiar conditons, get medical attention.
( frostbite symptoms )
ok i think that's enough basic info. obviously i'm not a doctor....so take medical stuff i say with a grain of salt and use logical sense...but gah...extreme cold is not a happy thing.
