Jun. 11th, 2003 06:11 amI haven't written a full out post in quite a few days. Today is another fun and exciting day of work. I hope I can focus better. Yesterday I was extremely distractable....but I was also ferrying around a potential new hire for a good chunk of the day so that seems acceptable to me since I think my mind was in 3 places at once. I have a few concerns with some of the stuff I'm working on, but I think it should come together. Everything else is gravy.

My fencing needs work. I need to get back to doing serious lessons and I need to start doing some serious drills. I didn't go to practice last night due to dinner with the new hire, and I thought I'd have enough time to come home and do some cleaning to get a better drill space set=up. This did NOT happen. My apartment remains a bit of a mess with too much camping gear out. I need to fix that.

The situation in North Korea seems to be getting worse. I can't fathom what sort of response they expected by saying "we want nukes so we can have a smaller army", and there are also reports of canibalism in the countryside. As a nation they are not the most resource rich place, and it's one of the things that has caused some of the problems over there. I believe there weather has been really screwy this year as well and that there are real problems with the food supplies. It doesn't help that we as a nation promised them aid and then yanked it away.
When you get right down to the core of why civilizations crumble, its often climatic changes. It doesn't take much of a shift to cause pure and utter chaos. We'd like to think that we can control that, but we really can't. Nature is too powerful. Picture what would happen if we had a drought over most of the country for a year or so, think about the price gouging.Actually if you know much about the Great Depression, think about how the Dust Bowl helped the economic disaster along. Now I didn't say we'd go to canabilism, but we have a better infrastructure...it would take longer for something of that scale. North Korea doesn't have the stability that we have. We're a big kid on the block, they are a little kid trying to bluster to get what they need. The thing to remeber with this is that when little kids get hungry and head strong they can get nasty real quick and throw unexpected punches.
